WIP: Circles and Stripes Blanket

The four squares are done. I was initially disappointed that Bernat didn't make a darker brown for me to use, but I like the way the colors look together.

In looking at some of the finished objects on Ravelry, I was worried about ending up with wonky looking circles so I came up with a little plan.

Start with a stencil and a water soluble fabric marker.

The marker is fine tipped and pretty light but if you look closely you can see the blue outline.

Then, following the pattern directions, I crocheted a circle onto the tan square.

Then I whipped stitched around the crocheted circle.

The circle still isn't as neat as I had hoped but I can live with it. The whip stitching takes forever. (Notice how the circle is only 3/4 of the way done?)

The only flaw in my plan? Notice the color of the pen? Notice the color of the other solid square? It looks like I'm going back to the craft store.

How does a kid that got the flu shot get the flu? By going to the Children's Museum during school vacation week, that's how. (I'm pretty sure anyway.)

After giving her teaspoon after teaspoon of water (and cleaning up tablespoon after tablespoon of puke) I finally gave in to my hysterical mother core and took Bear to the emergency room. They sent us home with some anti-nausea medicine and instructions to keep her hydrated.

She's now happily eating "hot cheese and chips" - the only lunch she would agree to - and watching Robots for the third time today.

So my dinasour of a computer is still on the fritz. Right now I'm using Andrew's company laptop to connect to the rest of the world again.

Here are a few quick updates on what's going on in my little corner of the planet. Then, I'm off to see what's going on in your world.

  • After coughing like a seal for the past month, I finally convinced an actual doctor to see me and prescribe me something, anything, to make it stop. My OB gave me cough syrup, cough syrup with codeine for night time, and an inhaler. I feel a billion times better in just 24 hours. Yahoo.
  • But of course, since I feel better, Bear is sick. She has some horrible stomach bug and has kept down a total of 4 ounces of water all day. Yes, just water. This is the child that will drink whatever disgusting liquid medicine she is prescribed but literally HIDES BEHIND THE COUCH if I try to poison her with Gateraide or Pedialyte.
  • The ballerina wrap is on its way to being done. The pieces have been knit and blocked. It's just waiting for me to come up with some finishing energy.
  • The circles and stripes blanket has three squares done and the fourth is on the needles. I think I'm going to double to the width of the cable edging, knit it in the round and knit it onto the blanket as I go. Then I will add a fabric piece to the back of the blanket so that there isn't a "wrong" side once the blanket is done.

That's it for my world, for now. :-)

On the Way to School

Bear: When I grow up I going to be a teacher.

Me: A teacher? That's a very good thing to be.

Bear: Yeah, a teacher. Or maybe a big tree.
