I'm a Winner!!!

I've always thought so, and now Chan has confirmed my suspicions. I won her charity contest, so I get a box of knitting goodies and the Station Fire Fund gets a doubled-donation (all donations through December 31, 2007 will be matched, thereby doubling your donation).

More questions from you-know-who

My sock it to me pal has some more questions for me (this is so much fun!) -

Do you prefer solid or variegated yarn?
Can I say sort of both? I like the look of hand dyed yarn - subtle color variations instead of big blotches of different colors.

List three patterns you have been salivating over but just haven't gotten around to
1. The Gym Slip Dress from Knit 2 Together
2. Ballet Wrap
3. Grecian Plait

List 3 sock patterns you have been drooling over
1. Over the Knee Socks
2. Crosshatch Lace
3. Cable net

The Reveal

Late (very late) yesterday afternoon my mailman dropped off my last SP11 package. Inside the priority mail box were five individual brightly wrapped gifts with silver-penned messages on them. I was too impatient to find the camera before ripping into them, so you'll have to use your imagination. But the gifts were spectacular. Dana truly outdid herself.

The scarf is green, lacy, and super soft. The little yellow spot in the middle is Bee Bar hand and body lotion. It's perfect - shea butter, jojoba, beeswax, lanolin, cocoa butter, sweet almond oil, and vitamin E. Yum. Inside the blue and white bag is Aveeno moisturizing soap - and I love the washcloth bag. AND some pink louet Gems yarn with two patterns. I've also been scoping out the possibilities on Ravelry. Now, Dana, I have a question - what are these two mesh thingies you sent with the tape measure? I can't quite figure them out. (I forgot to put the tape measure and mesh thingies in the picture - oops!) All, in all, I have LOVED this swap - both the giving and receiving.

Now, my SITMT spoiler would like to know if I were a cartoon character who I would be and why? I've been thinking about this all day - I've even taken the two quizzes google found for me (which told me I was goofy and tweety bird respectively) but I think I might be my favorite cartoon character Arthur - I have a solid group of friends that I've known forever, love the library, get a little single minded about my hobbies and favorite TV shows, want to do the right thing, but am sometimes unsure of myself. She (and I'm assuming my pal is a she) also asked what season I am and why? I think I'm spring - I want to be warm and sunny, but sometimes the storms just can't be stopped. Hope that helps.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

I may not be a famous millionaire, live in a 35 acre mansion, or drive a fancy car but those things are not important. I am blessed with a beautiful baby girl, a loving, dedicated husband, and two dogs who just want to snuggle. I have a step-daughter who is maturing into a young woman I am proud to know. Today, I am also thankful for the basic everyday things that I take for granted - a home, heat, hot water, plenty of food and drink, a stable job that I love. I feel lucky to be part of this online community, when I started this blog I never expected to make friends. And finally I am thankful for all the wonderful people in my life, the aunts, cousins, friends, family, co-workers, everyone that makes my life a good place to be.

A Different Kind of Thankful

Chan is having a contest over at her blog. She wants to know what your favorite charity is and why. My entry is the Station Fire Fund. In February 2003 there was a horrific fire at a nightclub in Warwick, RI. A local DJ and 99 other people were killed (1/10 of 1% of Rhode Island’s population), and many more were injured, including a friend’s sister who was forced to relinquish custody of her daughter due to her incredibly lengthly hospital stay. The Station Fire Fund directly supports victims of the fire and their families, including the 76 children who lost one or both parents that night.

Sock it to Me Twice

How long have you been knitting? Do you consider yourself beginner, intermediate, advanced?
About 18 years though I've only been really serious for the last three years.

How long have you been knitting socks?
Since this summer.

What are your favorite fibers to work with?
I like wool, love wool bamboo blends, and something with a little Lycra in it for socks.

What is your favorite color?
Green, blue, orange, sun kissed earth tones.

What are your current WIPs (works in progress)?
Everything, or just the things I really am working on, lol. Um, two tanks from Rowan, the Roundabout Leaf tank from Knitting Nature, a honeymoon cami for a friend (for about two years now), the Back to School U-Neck vest for me, and a vest to sweater transformation for my daughter. Oh, and a Christmas dress for Bear too.

Name your favorite yarns, (brand, fibers, colors, etc.).
Rowan Linen Drape, Cascade 220, Classic Elite Wool Bamboo

What are some yarns/fibers that you stay away from.
I'm pretty much done with novelty yarns and I don't like the feel of most acrylics.

What is your family situation? (Married, kids, pets?)
Married, 1 daughter, 1 step-daughter, 2 dogs

Name some of your hobbies.
Knitting (lol), running, yoga, board games

Name some of your favorite movies?
Troop Beverly Hills (I know), The American President, Supersize Me

Do you like to read?

Do you collect anything?
Not really, I'm not big on dust collectors.

Do you own an iPod or mp3 player?

What are your favorite type of knitting needles?

What knitting notion could you not live without?

Who are some of your favorite designers?
Um, me :)

Do you subscribe to any magazines? (Knitting or otherwise.)
No :(

When is your birthday?
March 16, 1978

Do you have a "wishlist", (on Ravelry, Froogle, or Amazon)?

Do you have a Ravelry ID?

If you had a sheep, what would you name it?

The Saga of the World Series Vest Continues

I've added a seed stitch border with some picot edging, but I really think it still needs sleeves. Luckily, my husband agrees, so today I was able to feed the habit with a skein of Nature Wool Chunky and some Catalina Alpaca in an atrocious pink (that apparently does not exist according to a google search). Why did I get pink yarn? Because Bear picked it out. She wants a PINK eye pillow for the resting pose at the end of her kids yoga video. And I'm going to make it for her. No, I'm not wrapped around her finger at all.
Anyway, I'm also going to make a pocket for the front - since her Daddy's hooded sweatshirt has a pocket in the front, Bear needs one too.

Gift knitting

makes for boring blogging.

And I know, I said I wasn't going to do it this year, but really, you're all invited to my house for wine and cookies Christmas Eve for the annual knit until dawn fest.

I did finally break out the Back to School vest again last night - I knit through new episodes of America's Next Top Model, Forensic Files, and Project Runway. I think I might be able to wear it by Thanksgiving. Tonight, I'm supposed to go to a friend's house for Grey's Anatomy but I forgot my knitting at home. So, I could leave work early (came in two hours late today, probably not the best choice), skip the gym (not happening), go home and get my knitting (um...) or buy some new yarn and needles on the way over.

Now, the obvious choice is to just pick up some yarn and needles on the way over but I made my husband a promise a few weeks ago that since we both want another baby next year, I would not buy any more yarn or shop on ebay until at least March (my birthday). He'd never notice more yarn in the house, but I am SUCH a crappy liar I'd give myself away in minutes. Ah, what to do...

Happy Birthday Bear!

I will anounce the winner of my contest in a moment - first you must suffer through some Mama gloating.
Tuesday, my little girl turned two. Hard to believe that in two (very) short years, she went from this...

to this...

Yesterday we had her party at the local Children's Museum. She talked about it all day (my party, mElmo, my party, mElmo, my party, mElmo) and managed to keep herself pretty much composed during the whole affair. Only once did she have a little meltdown, when she got in trouble for pushing another two-year old who tried to take her new shopping cart.

A friend made the cake and Bear insisted on having the nose - the entire nose, though she basically only ate the frosting. She came down from her sugar high hard and practically begged to be put to bed when we got home last night.

This morning the toys were all unbound from their boxes and ready to go. Here are some pics from the (morning) after party.

And now, the part you've all been waiting for. April, from Clandestine & Candour, is the winner!
She wins this very lovely prize of warm winter yarn and a set of four knitting pattern note cards. Congratulations April! And thanks to everyone who entered - I hope everyone will keep visiting.

First of all, let me say HOLY COW!!! I cannot believe the amazing response to my contest - thanks everyone! I realized I forgot to let everyone know when it ends - so I arbitrarily pick Saturday at midnight (my time). Sunday I will figure out everyone's entries, pick the winner, and announce the prize.

Secondly, I thought I would share this cuteness...

A witch, a cow, Arthur, and Elmo.
