Reverence

A few days ago I posted about a patient of mine who had survived horrific odds to beat cancer, only to go home and suffer a freak accident. Yesterday morning, his wife made the brave decision to let him go.

I am without words.

This man was funny and sweet and tenacious in the face of such an exhausting personnel struggle. Later this week family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate his life. Let this be my tribute.

I think the family is wonderful to be able to give this man the gift of dying with dignity. My prayers are with them for continued strength.
